Six dead in the Calgary plane crash

A small plane accident that killed six persons occurred in Kananaskis Country, a hilly area west of Calgary, Canada. According to the Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP), the plane carrying five people and the pilot took off from Springbank Airport near Calgary on Friday night with a destination of Salmon Arm, British Columbia.

Air Traffic Control (ATC) lost touch with the aircraft around 9:30 p.m. local time (03:30 GMT on Saturday), according to RCMP Staff Sgt. Ryan Singleton. A Winnipeg-based Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) unit was called into action after the plane was reported missing.

The squadron was able to locate the accident site and begin searching for survivors thanks to assistance from Alberta Parks Mountain Rescue. But because of the crash’s severe impact, all six people on board perished.

Singleton stated, “On behalf of the Alberta RCMP, I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the families of those onboard the aircraft,” adding that the victims’ identities were not yet being made public.

  • Six people were killed in a small plane accident in Kananaskis Country, Canada.
  • ATC loses contact with missing aircraft; RCAF unit called.
  • Mountain rescue specialist Mike Koppang reports questionable weather during the flight.

The rugged terrain made it very difficult to recover the pilot’s and passengers’ bodies. But all six bodies have been successfully located, he continued.

The weather at the time of the flight, according to Mike Koppang, a mountain rescue specialist with Kananaskis Country who was on the scene with some other crews, was questionable, with low-lying clouds being reported in the area.

Koppang expresses unhappiness with the weather outcomes and is still looking into the weather observations from last night. The plane, a single-engine Piper PA-32, was involved in the incident, and the Transportation Safety Board was looking into it, a spokeswoman said.
