A severe wind advisory has been issued by Environment Canada for Metro Vancouver’s western region.

The National Weather Service reported severe gusty winds from the west and northwest at 9:30 p.m. on Tuesday. These winds were linked to a trough of low pressure that was expected to pass through Vancouver soon.

Strong wind warning

There was predicted to be a chance of thunderstorms and a lot of rain. “Loose objects could injure or hurt people when thrown by the wind. Strong winds may cause fallen tree branches and power disruptions, according to Environment Canada.

The cities that should be most affected are Delta, New Westminster, Richmond, Vancouver, and Burnaby.

There were 24,099 customers in the Lower Mainland without power as of 11 p.m.; these outages were the result of 39 incidents. Thirteen outages left about 8,000 homes without electricity on Vancouver Island, which was also affected by the winds. It’s anticipated that the high wind event will pass by Wednesday morning.
