At least 132 people were killed and numerous others were injured when a powerful 6.4-magnitude earthquake struck Nepal’s northwest regions. More than 800 kilometers away, the National Capital Region and New Delhi, the capital of India, were affected by the earthquake.
According to officials, since contact with the affected areas has been hampered, the death toll could increase. The earthquake’s magnitude was initially given as 5.6 and its depth as 11 miles by the US Geological Survey.

About 250 miles northeast of Kathmandu, Jajarkot, was the epicenter of the earthquake. Jajarkot and West Rukum had suffered the most damage from the earthquake as of Saturday; Jajarkot had reported 92 fatalities.
The national president of the Congress, Mallikarjun Kharge, said that Indians support Nepal and offered his condolences for the lives lost in the earthquake there. As of right now, 132 people have died and 140 more have been injured in the 6.4 magnitude earthquake. To assess the situation and meet with those affected, Nepal’s prime minister, Pushpa Kamal Dahal, traveled to the earthquake-affected areas.
The epicenter of the earthquake was verified by the National Centre for Seismology to be in the Jajarkot district of Nepal, which is roughly 331 km to the west-northwest of Kathmandu and 227 km north of Ayodhya. On Saturday morning, rescue efforts were launched by army personnel in Nepal’s earthquake-affected areas.
According to reports, West Rukum and Jajarkot both suffered significant damage, with Jajarkot alone suffering 92 casualties. Sarita Singh, the Nalgad Municipality’s deputy mayor, is one of the victims. The military barracks and the helipad at Nepalgunj Airport need to have ambulances available at all times, according to orders given to officials.
