Tom Nancekivell, a dedicated and passionate farmer, was honored as the Sheep Farmer of the Year at the South West Farmer Awards 2023. This recognition comes after a remarkable show season where he showcased the best of sheep farming across the southwest.

Tom, who began his journey with his own flock at just 11 years old, now farms 550 acres with his father, Roland Nancekivell. Together, they manage 500 cattle and 550 breeding ewes, continuing a legacy that spans three generations.

In addition to his farming achievements, Tom has been an active member of the Young Farmers Clubs. He served as chair of the Bradworthy Young Farmers Club in 2022, raising £6,000 for the British Heart Foundation. This year, he leads the Tarka YFC group. Tom’s commitment to the agricultural community is evident in his participation in various shows, including the prestigious Royal Cornwall Show, where he won the interbred champion award in 2023.

Farming has been a lifelong passion for Tom, who started with his own flock at the age of 11. Now, alongside his father, Roland Nancekivell, he manages a 550-acre farm that includes 500 cattle and 550 breeding ewes. Their farm is a symbol of the family’s dedication to agriculture, spanning three generations of farming expertise and tradition.

Tom’s involvement in the Young Farmers Clubs has also been noteworthy. In 2022, as chair of the Bradworthy Young Farmers Club, he creatively raised £6,000 for the British Heart Foundation by cycling a bathtub around local YF clubs. This year, as the chair of the Tarka YFC group, he continues to inspire and lead young farmers in the community.

His participation in agricultural shows has further highlighted his commitment to the farming sector. At the Royal Cornwall Show in 2023, Tom’s sheep won the interbred champion award, showcasing the quality and excellence of his livestock. Tom’s enthusiasm for promoting agriculture and engaging with the public at various shows is a vital part of his mission to support and advance the farming industry.
