77,000 Individuals in 6 Regions are Affected by Betty’s Limited Damage in PH

The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council said on Friday that tropical cyclone Betty’s impact on infrastructure and agriculture was minor.

However, the storm harmed over 77,000 people across six districts, according to NDRRMC spokesperson Raffy Alejandro. He said on ANC’s “Rundown” that the damage caused by Betty to infrastructure and agriculture was “very minimal” based on his monitoring and reporting.

Infrastructural Damage

According to Alejandro, there have been some landslides in the Cordillera while a historic warehouse has been demolished in Cagayan.

The southwest monsoon may continue to intensify after Betty exited the Philippine area of responsibility on Thursday afternoon, according to PAGASA, the state weather agency.

  • National Disaster Risk Reduction Council reports minor infrastructure and agriculture impacts from Betty.
  • Storm damages 77,000 people, minimal infrastructure damage reported.
  • Alejandro emphasizes improving preparations by maintaining adequate stockpiles.

The nation is currently being affected by the habagat. Previously, the NOAA predicted that between 10 and 14 tropical cyclones would make landfall in PAR between May and October of this year.

Alejandro stated, “We will keep improving our preparations by ensuring we have an adequate stockpile of food and non-food products in our strategic warehouses across the nation.

While we improve our response unit’s capabilities all the way down to local government, we will also keep improving our reaction unit’s capabilities.”
