With $118 million, Marvel Studios’ “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania” wins Presidents Day weekend at the box office.
The premiere of Marvel Studios’ first film of 2023, “Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania,” which once again stars Paul Rudd, Evangeline Lilly, Michelle Pfeiffer, and Michael Douglas and is joined by Kathryn Newton as Cassie Lang and Jonathan Majors as the MCU’s newest major antagonist, Kang the Conqueror, put a lot of pressure on this weekend.
“Ant-Man” Movies
The “Ant-Man” threequel, which was shown in 4,345 theatres, grossed $17.5 million in Thursday previews, which were added to the $46 million Friday projection.
That’s decent compared to the first two “Ant-Man” films, but far less than the opening days of “Doctor Strange into the Multiverse of Crazy,” “Thor: Love and Thunder,” and “Black Panther: Wakanda Forever,” which brought in $90.7 million, $69.6 million, and $84.3 million, respectively.
Despite not being a sequel, it performed higher than “Black Widow’s” $39.5 million opening day and “Shang- Chi’s” $29.5 million debut in 2021.

It was all about how well Marvel’s movie might hold up over the weekend after that comparatively lackluster opening day. With the biggest opening for 2023 so far, an estimated $104 million during the three-day weekend, and an anticipated $118 million through Monday, it performed all right in that regard.
In addition to having the best opening of any “Ant-Man” film, “Quantumania” now boasts the third-largest Presidents Day opening ever.
James Cameron’s “Avatar: The Way of Water” held off all challengers to maintain second place with an estimated $6.1 million, a 16% decrease from the previous weekend.
“Magic Mike’s Final Dance” from Warners doubled its theatre count this weekend, playing in 3,034 locations. It earned an estimated $5.5 million, down 34% from its initial weekend and moving it to third place. After ten days in theatres, it has already made $18.1 million in revenue.
The animated sequel “Puss in Boots: The Last Wish,” which earned an additional $5.3 million over the three-day weekend with just less than $7 million including Monday, provided some competition for third place.
