Ukraine Repels Massive Drone Attack Amid Kharkiv Devastation

  • Ukraine shot down 53 of 56 Russian drones in a major overnight assault on Kyiv.
  • A Russian glide bomb hit a high-rise in Kharkiv, killing one and injuring 42.
  • Zelensky urges the West for long-range missiles to target Russian bases.

Ukraine’s air defense forces successfully intercepted 53 of the 56 drones launched by Russia in a massive overnight assault targeting Kyiv.

This follows a devastating glide bomb strike in Kharkiv, where one person was killed, and over 40 others were injured.

Zelensky Renews Missile Requests as Ukraine Defends Against Drone Strikes

Ukraine faced another intense drone attack from Russia, with Kyiv bearing the brunt of the assault. Of the 56 drones launched overnight, Ukrainian forces managed to intercept 53, preventing widespread devastation but still leaving behind damage to homes and injuring one civilian.

The attack occurred just after a deadly strike on a high-rise building in Kharkiv, where Russian forces deployed a glide bomb. The bombing left one person dead and 42 injured, with emergency responders working to assist the survivors and clear the rubble.

President Zelensky responded by reiterating his request for long-range missile systems like the U.S. ATACMS and British Storm Shadow. While Ukraine has used Storm Shadow missiles supplied by the UK, they are restricted from targeting key Russian military sites within Russia itself. Zelensky insists that extending Ukraine’s reach is essential to counter Russia’s air power.

These drone and missile assaults illustrate the evolving dynamics of warfare in Ukraine, with both sides adapting their strategies. While Ukraine has effectively employed air defense systems, Zelensky argues that offensive long-range capabilities are crucial to neutralizing threats at their source.

Ukraine’s ability to defend against Russia’s relentless drone and missile attacks is proving critical, but Zelensky’s continued push for long-range missile systems suggests the current strategies may not suffice without additional Western support.

“The only way to counter this terror is through a systemic solution—long-range capabilities to destroy Russian military aviation at its bases.” – Volodymyr Zelensky
