Union Minister Ramnath Thakur has announced a significant push towards promoting organic farming and reducing chemical fertilizer usage in northeastern states as part of the Union Budget 2024-25.

This initiative includes higher budgetary allocations aimed at addressing farmers’ challenges and improving soil health.

Government Focuses on Organic Farming and Sustainable Practices

At the 32nd International Association of Agricultural Economists’ inauguration, Prime Minister Narendra Modi highlighted the essential role of small farmers in India’s agricultural strategy. He stressed the importance of climate-resilient and sustainable farming practices, as well as the integration of digital technologies to enhance food security. Modi pointed to India’s success with large-scale, chemical-free natural farming, suggesting its model could benefit other developing Asian nations facing similar agrarian challenges.

Thakur underscored the comprehensive budgetary support provided by Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman, which spans across various sectors, including agriculture. He also addressed the recurring problem of floods in Assam, highlighting the government’s active pursuit of a permanent solution to prevent significant agricultural losses and enhance the resilience of the farming sector in the region.
