Wrestlers have one more chance to earn a quota for the Summer Games, which is the Istanbul meet. There are three Paris Olympic quotas available for every weight class.
The winners of the playoff match between the two bronze medallists in the weight class will take home the third position, with the two finalists in each division earning Olympic quotas for their respective nations.
In the meantime, Deepak Punia failed to meet his quota in the 86kg. The Asian Games silver medallist led 3-0 at one point in his opening fight but lost 6-4 against Zushen Lin of China.
Later, in the quarterfinals, Zushen Lin was eliminated, dashing Deepak Punia’s chances of qualifying for an Olympic quota through the repechage path. After placing fifth in the Tokyo Olympics, the Indian wrestler came dangerously close to taking home a gold.
