India’s Lok Sabha Election 2024 Latest Updates

  • On April 19, 102 constituencies and 21 states held their first round of voting in the 2024 Lok Sabha election.
  • Union Territories including Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar will also hold elections.
  • Up to 11 a.m., the average voter turnout in Tripura West LS seat was 34.6%.

On April 19, 102 constituencies and 21 states held their first round of voting in the 2024 Lok Sabha election. Seven waves of voting will occur, with the seventh one taking place on June 1.

There will be voting in states such as Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra, Assam, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Mizoram, Nagaland, Rajasthan, Sikkim, Tamil Nadu, Tripura, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and West Bengal.

Lok Sabha election

Union Territories including Jammu and Kashmir, Puducherry, Lakshadweep, and Andaman and Nicobar will also hold elections. In the election, Prime Minister Narendra Modi‘s NDA alliance is running for a third term in a row. Taking a pragmatic stance, the opposition INDIA alliance has pledged cash handouts to women and MSP for farmers in their agenda.

Manipur voters smashed the electronic voting machines in the Bishnupur constituency after thugs opened fire close to the polling place. Union Minister Giriraj Singh demanded that Tejashwi Yadav’s haughtiness be put an end to by a popular vote.

In the first four hours of voting, more than 28% of voters cast ballots in Chhattisgarh’s Bastar Lok Sabha constituency, which is affected by the Naxals. Iqra Hasan, a candidate for the SP, has asked for more time at polling places in cases where voting equipment broke down or there were delays.

According to LJP leader Chirag Paswan, the race is one-sided and the party is certain of capturing all 40 Lok Sabha seats from Bihar. There have been no casualties from the gunfire of armed miscreants at a polling place in Thamanpokpi, which falls within the Inner Manipur Lok Sabha seat.

Up to 11 a.m., 23.62% of voters cast ballots in UP seats; the average voter turnout in Tripura West LS seat was 34.6%. Up to 11 a.m., Rajasthan had a 22.51 percent voter turnout. Up to 11 a.m., 15.03% of voters cast ballots in Bihar; Jamui recorded 19.33%, Gaya 14.50%, and Nawada 17.65%.

‘Road nahi toh vote nahi’ was the slogan used by voters from Suniyakot village in Almora, Uttrakhand, during their boycott of the first round of the Lok Sabha elections.
