The parliament votes in favor of Nepali PM “Prachanda”

  • Winning a vote of confidence, “Prachanda” did so despite the nation’s struggles to preserve political stability.
  • Prachanda was given 157 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives.
  • Prachanda has asked the House for a vote of confidence three times.

Winning a vote of confidence in Parliament on Wednesday, Nepal’s Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, sometimes known as “Prachanda,” did so despite the nation’s struggles to preserve political stability.

A former guerilla leader, Prachanda, 69, was given 157 votes in the 275-member House of Representatives by the Communist Party of Nepal (Maoist Centre), the third-largest party in the HoR.

Vote of Confidence

Days after the Maoist leader left the Nepali Congress and formed a new partnership with the Communist Party of Nepal (Unified Marxist-Leninist), the vote took place.

In the short period since he became prime minister in December 2022, Prachanda has asked the House for a vote of confidence three times.

A prime minister is required by constitutional procedures to take a vote of confidence in the ruling coalition following the withdrawal of support from an ally.
