Chennai airport forcing the cancellation of flights from the UAE

  • Heavy rains in Chennai, south India, have caused several flights to be canceled.
  • On December 5, the airline plans to use a larger aircraft.
  • Chennai has been ordered to remain indoors while four coastal districts have been declared public holidays.

Heavy rains in Chennai, south India, have caused several flights to be canceled or rerouted. Due to inclement weather, the airport operator, Chennai’s airport, has closed until 11 p.m.

To accommodate the impacted passengers, Etihad Airways canceled two flights on December 4 between Abu Dhabi and Chennai. On December 5, the airline plans to use a larger aircraft. Passengers scheduled on the canceled flights will receive assistance from airport personnel.

Due to the persistent bad weather in Chennai, a flydubai flight that was scheduled to depart from Dubai International and arrive in Chennai was rerouted to Bengaluru.

The flight’s return, FZ-450, was canceled. When the flight time approaches, Air India will send out an advisory based on its close observation of the situation. Some residents were left stranded as a result of flight cancellations, while others were forced to postpone their travel plans to Chennai.

Rashid, an Abu Dhabi resident, was scheduled to return late on Monday night from meetings related to work; however, he was rescheduled for Wednesday morning.

In anticipation of Cyclonic Storm Michaung’s landfall, India is expecting heavy rains to fall on Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh for a full day. Tamil Nadu’s capital city Chennai has been ordered to remain indoors while four coastal districts have been declared public holidays.
