Burmester wins back-to-back on the DP World Tour in golf

  • Wind-related cancellation of the super-G race has resulted in the cancellation of the World Cup weekend events.
  • After two plays, Pittman caught his eleventh pass of the day to maintain the Colts’ (7-5) AFC playoff hopes.
  • Sunday’s thrilling 4-3 Premier League match between Liverpool and Fulham featured two goals in the closing minutes.

Wind-related cancellation of the super-G race has resulted in the cancellation of the World Cup weekend events at Beaver Creek, Colorado. Dean Burmester, who won the Joburg Open last week, now has back-to-back DP World Tour victories after winning the South African Open by three strokes.

With a four-round total of 277, the 34-year-old South African finished well ahead of the trio of Italian Renato Paratore, Swedish Jesper Svensson, and South African Ryan van Velzen, who were all tied for second place with 280.

The Indianapolis Colts defeated the Tennessee Titans 31-28 on Sunday in Nashville, Tennessee, thanks to a touchdown pass from Garrett Minshew to Michael Pittman of 4 yards with 2:31 remaining in overtime.

On Indianapolis’ only possession of the extra period, Minshew—who was 26 of 42 for 312 yards with two scores—found Alec Pierce for a 55-yard gain to the Titans 4. After two plays, Pittman caught his eleventh pass of the day to maintain the Colts’ (7-5) AFC playoff hopes.

The Boston Bruins beat the Toronto Maple Leafs 4-3 on Saturday night in the NHL roundup. Brad Marchand scored the first goal of the extra period at 4:52, and Auston Matthews added his second goal of the contest at 19:54 to send the game into overtime.

A lack of support from state or federal governments has led Australia’s Gold Coast to withdraw its bid to host the Commonwealth Games in 2026. After Victoria withdrew from consideration of the quadrennial multi-sport event in July due to budget overruns, the 700 million Australian dollars ($466.62 million) joint bid with Perth was not supported by the government.

Sunday’s thrilling 4-3 Premier League match between Liverpool and Fulham featured two goals in the closing minutes. Mikaela Shiffrin secured her 143rd career podium with a third-place finish in the whiteout conditions at Mont Tremblant, Quebec, as Federica Brignone won her second World Cup giant slalom in as many days.

With 9.9 seconds left in the NBA playoffs, host Los Angeles Clippers defeated the Golden State Warriors 113–111 after Paul George made the game-winning 3-pointer with 22 seconds coming up. When Tiger Woods returns to competitive golf in 2024—he did so at the Hero World Challenge in the Bahamas on Sunday—he plans to be able to play one event per month.

As he defeated Japan’s Rikuya Hoshino in a playoff to win the Stonehaven Cup on Sunday, Joaquin Niemann proved his mettle in the Sydney winds and became the first Chilean champion in the 119-year history of the Australian Open.
