Australia Won Afghanistan in Today’s World Cup Match

Afghanistan’s captain, Hashmatullah Shahidi, won the toss and chose to bat first in the ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 match against his country. One change was made to Afghanistan’s playing eleven: Naveen-ul-Haq took Fazalhaq Farooqi’s place.

Australia’s playing eleven saw two changes as Steve Smith was ruled out of the game by illness. Mitchell Marsh and Glenn Maxwell are back in the Australian XI. At Mumbai’s Wankhede Stadium, Afghanistan defeated Australia 291/5 in the 39th match of the ODI World Cup 2023 thanks to Ibrahim Zadran’s first career century.

World Cup 2023

Following Zadran’s 129-run innings from 143 balls against the Australians, Afghanistan scored their first-ever century in the World Cup. Afghanistan scored 291/5, as the Australian bowling attack was unable to score runs in the first few overs.

The players on Afghanistan’s playing eleven are Ikram Alikhil, Rashid Khan, Mujeeb Ur Rahman, Noor Ahmad, Rahmat Shah, Hashmatullah Shahidi, Azmatullah Omarzai, Rahmanullah Gurbaz, Ibrahim Zadran, Mohammad Nabi, and Naveen-ul-Haq. The Star Sports 1 HD/SD, Star Sports 2 HD/SD, and Star Sports Hindi 1 HD/SD platforms will all air the game live.

Australia and Afghanistan played each other in the World Cup. After 42 overs, the Australians were 245-7 thanks to the efforts of Glenn Maxwell and Pat Cummins. Maxwell found it difficult to run a single as Ozmatullah Omarzai came back into the attack. Noor Ahmad was in pain as he took a single off the next ball, but he came back to attack and scored four runs.

Maxwell was in excruciating pain from a back spasm and Australia needed 76 runs in 72 balls. Shahidi of Afghanistan had to reverse the momentum after 34 overs. Maxwell was receiving post-over attention from the physio.

As the game went on, Noor Ahmad hit his second World Cup century, scoring three runs off the opening two balls. Australia was trailing by seven wickets, and Afghanistan was producing amazing results. With the final ball off the over, Cummins struck for four runs. For the Australians to win the match, they needed to score 76 runs in 72 balls.
