As early as 2024, HMD Global—the worldwide licensee of Nokia smartphones—plans to launch its line of smartphones, tablets, and wearables in India, using that nation as a global launchpad, as announced on Wednesday by vice president for India and Asia Pacific Ravi Kunwar.

After beginning to export Nokia feature phones from India, the company will now manufacture devices under the HMD brand there as well.

India is regarded as the most important market for devices bearing the HMD brand, and during the first and second quarters of the upcoming year, the consumer market is anticipated to take precedence.

For the past three years, HMD Global has partnered with companies like Foxconn, Dixon Technologies, and Lava International to produce the majority of its smartphone models in India.

Before it was eventually shut down, Nokia, one of the first companies to use local production in India, had its largest global manufacturing facility there.

HMD is establishing India as its primary export hub with the launch of the Nokia 105 feature phone, which is being sold to a few African markets.

To establish India as an export hub for HMD manufacturers, the company intends to keep promoting the Made in India narrative and take advantage of the export-oriented advantages offered by governments.
