Women’s World Cup 2023 quarter-finals and the last eight teams

  • Spain, Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Australia, France, England, and Colombia are the 8 surviving teams.
  • Spain faces the Netherlands in the quarterfinals, led by Alexia Putellas.
  • England faces Colombia in three games to win the first world championship.

With eight teams still competing, the quarterfinals of the Women’s World Cup will be held in Australia and New Zealand.

In addition to one team each from Asia, Oceania, and South America, the competition involves five teams from Europe. Spain, Netherlands, Japan, Sweden, Australia, France, England, and Colombia are the eight surviving teams.

Women’s World Cup 2023

A formidable team led by two-time Ballon d’Or winner Alexia Putellas and players like Aitana Bonmati, Jennifer Hermoso, and Alba Redondo will face off against Spain in the opening quarterfinal matchup. With odds of 4/5 to win and advance, Spain is the favorite against the Netherlands, who are offered at 100/30.

The only team still in the competition with the Women’s World Cup championship experience is Japan, who defeated the USA in the final to claim the title in 2011. They had three straight victories in perfect fashion, including a 4-0 triumph over Spain.

With a perfect record and a shocking victory over the tournament’s hosts, the United States, on penalties, Sweden hopes to make it to the World Cup final for the first time in 20 years.

Without their star player Sam Kerr, Australia won their group, which also included the Republic of Ireland, Canada, and Nigeria. Australia will square off against France for a spot in the semi-finals.

Australia advanced to the quarterfinals with a 2-0 victory over Denmark, while France, who defeated Morocco 4-0, may face England in the semifinal if they win their quarterfinal match.

Three games separate England, the defending European champions, from their first-ever world championship, but they must overcome Colombia. The Lionesses are undefeated after three games, winning three of them, including a 6-1 victory over China. However, in a 0-0 draw with Nigeria, they barely won on penalties.

Due to her suspension, England’s leading scorer Lauren James will not be able to compete until at least the championship game. Colombia, a young team, has excelled on the international scene this year, defeating Germany and South Korea as well as Jamaica 1-0. They are offered at 6/1 odds, while England is offered at 1/2, to win the game in 90 minutes.
