World Food Day 2023: Importance and the Background

October 16th, 2023, is designated as World Food Day, to bring attention to and enact policies to combat world hunger and malnutrition. It was created in 1979 by the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the United Nations to serve as a reminder of the importance of food security and universal access to healthful food.

To solve the world’s food concerns, it highlights the significance of sustainable agriculture and food production. Future Food Day is a chance for people all across the world to come together and work for a world without hunger.

One of the main objectives of World Food Day 2023 is to draw attention to the issue of ensuring that everyone has access to a nutritious diet and to food, as it is a fundamental human right.

Since its founding, the day has been observed in more than 150 countries, serving as a reminder to all of us of the importance of food security and our shared commitment to ending hunger.

One can become engaged with World Food Day 2023 by learning about food-related issues, supporting food banks, lobbying for changes in laws, minimizing food waste, planning food drives, and lending assistance to farmers. The 2018 theme, “Water is life, water is food,” emphasized the value of clean water and the necessity of safeguarding it.

The theme for 2023 is “Safe Food Today for a Healthy Tomorrow,” highlighting the advantages of producing and consuming safe food both now and in the future.

Three methods to observe World Food Day are bringing attention to issues of global food security and injustice, making one’s life sustainable by wasting less food and volunteering at a food bank or local food pantry.

The globe produces enough food to feed everyone, but one in nine people suffer from chronic hunger, with women making up 60% of this group, according to key statistics regarding Globe Food Day 2023. Approximately 70% of the world‘s most impoverished people are farmers who reside in rural areas. Hunger claims more lives than malaria, tuberculosis, and AIDS put together.
