Ukraine: Seven people are killed by Russian shelling in Kherson

  • Russian shelling in Kherson, Ukraine, kills seven, injures 22.
  • Five fatalities in Shyroka Balka village; interior minister urges ceaseless violence.
  • Ukraine seeks justice, targets Russian crimes, and holds Russia accountable.

In the Kherson region of southern Ukraine, Russian shelling has left seven people dead, including a 22-day-old child, and at least 22 others wounded.

The area is still being shelled by Kremlin forces from across the Dnipro River, even though it regained a portion of Kherson from Russian occupation last November.

A 22-day-old girl, her 12-year-old brother, who passed away from critical injuries in the hospital, and their 39-year-old mother, Olesia, were among the five fatalities in the village of Shyroka Balka. Ihor Klymenko, the interior minister, urged the terrorists to quit using violence to harm civilians.

Two people, including a church pastor, were reportedly killed in the nearby village of Stanislav, according to Governor Oleksandr Prokudin.

Injuries were reported in five additional communities throughout the area, with three persons each hurt in the cities of Kherson and Beryslav.

President Volodymyr Zelenskiy called for a righteous reaction to Russian wickedness and pledged justice. He listed previous Russian targets as proof of Ukraine’s resolve to hold Russia accountable for its crimes, including occupiers, machinery, depots, and the Kerch Bridge connecting occupied Crimea with Russia that his domestic intelligence service recently confessed to damaging last October.

To retake Russian-occupied land throughout the southeast, the Ukrainian military launched a counteroffensive in June. However, they haven’t made any serious efforts to cross the Dnipro River and get to the Kherson region’s other side.
