Four Canadian border crossings were shut down on Wednesday due to a security alert caused by a speeding car that caught fire on the bridge that connects New York state in the US and Ontario province in Canada at Niagara Falls.
A car explosion on the American side of the Niagara Falls bridge on Wednesday resulted in a high alert being issued for both the United States and Canada. Local reports state that at approximately 11:30 a.m. (16:30 GMT) on the day before Thanksgiving, the crash happened.

Along with a US Customs and Border Patrol (CBP) officer who sustained minor injuries, the driver and the lone passenger perished in the collision. After the couple departed a US casino, there was a collision.
The Rainbow Bridge connects Niagara Falls, Canada, and Niagara Falls, US, and spans the Niagara River. The explosion happened at the checkpoint on the US side of the bridge. As a precaution, all three of the other border crossings from western New York into the Canadian province of Ontario along the Niagara River were closed for several hours.
Federal and local law enforcement officials concurred with New York Governor Kathy Hochul’s statement that there was “no indication of a terrorist attack.” Along with declaring that no explosive materials or terrorism-related connections had been found, the FBI concluded its investigation.
While the Rainbow Bridge remained closed while authorities investigated and evaluated the crossing’s safety, the three other bridges that were not involved were reopened early on Wednesday night.
In response to the explosion, the New York City police department dispatched NYPD officers upstate to “support efforts on the ground.” Although Buffalo Niagara International Airport is now open and running smoothly, travelers should anticipate more security checks and screenings in the wake of the incident. In an attempt to be extra cautious, Toronto police will increase the number of uniformed officers patrolling the city.
