Bettina Dorfmann previously held the record for the largest Barbie collection with her staggering 18,000 dolls, but the premiere of the blockbuster film on the iconic blonde has brought new attention to Bettina’s legendary collection.
At her monument to the plastic doll in Duesseldorf, west Germany, Dorfmann, 62, told AFP, “I always played with Barbies as a child.”

“My daughter was uninterested when I pulled out my dolls because they were too traditional. I began my collection at that time. She has been living the pink fantasy for 28 years, giving her collection of Barbies—which Guinness World Records has deemed the largest in the world—to museums and shopping centers so they can display them for a few months.
In general, about 5,000 to 20,000 people attend exhibitions, but the interest has increased since the movie came out (last week).”

The demand for her catalogs, in which she lists her beautifully kept Barbies from all decades, nationalities, and professions — as well as a few Ken dolls — has also increased during the previous week, she claimed.
Dorfmann owns a Barbie “clinic” in addition to having seen the American film twice and judging it “great.” Rare dolls can be repaired for anywhere from 10 to 500 to 600 euros, with rarer types demanding greater costs.
With $155 million in weekend sales, “Barbie” had the best opening weekend of 2023 at the North American box office. According to industry statistics, it also topped the box office in Germany with 732,000 tickets sold.
