Police were investigating Lee Sun-kyun, 48 years old, for potential usage of marijuana and other psychoactive substances. Amidst a government crackdown, the actor had been questioned by police three times on allegations of using illegal drugs.

The report of Lee’s disappearance prompted a search, which led to his discovery. The harsh drug laws in South Korea include a maximum term of six months in jail or fourteen years in prison for repeat offenders and traffickers.
