In keeping with its assistance to the Pacific countries, India gave the Solomon Islands a fleet of twenty buses, which was the greatest donation India has ever made to the nation.
Arriving on November 14, 2023, only five days before the grand opening of the highly anticipated 2023 Pacific Games, the buses, valued at an astounding USD 1 million, greatly strengthened the Solomon Islands’ transportation network.
2023 Pacific Games
The 20 Tata buses were commended for their important participation during the 2023 Pacific Games by Indian Envoy Inbasekar Sundaramurthi and Prime Minister Manasseh Sogavare.
With their 32 seats and extra holding rails for standing passengers, the buses could handle more than 32 people on each run—and occasionally as many as 60. During the Games, this capability proved to be invaluable in helping the National Hosting Authority and the Games Organizing Committee deal with transportation-related issues.
Sogavare, the third-biggest nation in the Pacific, complimented the Indian ambassador for helping to develop a presence in the nation for one of the biggest car companies worldwide.
The buses for the Honiara City Council’s transportation services, the Ministry of Infrastructure Transport pool, and boarding schools in the provinces are anticipated to be distributed by the National Hosting Authority following the Pacific Games. The buses represented their camaraderie and mutual dedication to working toward shared objectives.
