Putin hails China’s “Pure Intention” to Assist in Ending the War in Ukraine

In an interview with Chinese official media, Russian President Vladimir Putin hailed Beijing’s sincere effort to assist in ending the conflict in Ukraine.

Putin is scheduled to visit Beijing on Thursday in order to meet with Xi Jinping and request further backing for his war campaign in the isolated economy of Ukraine. His first overseas trip since his reelection and his second to China in less than six months, the tour will also include a trade and investment fair in Harbin.

Ukraine War

Putin commended China’s strategies for resolving the Ukrainian situation and made reference to a 12-point position document that China released in February 2023 outlining its goals for a political settlement.

Following the declaration of a “no limits” partnership, trade between the two nations has increased to all-time highs. China has been viewed by Moscow as a vital economic pillar ever since the West imposed unprecedented sanctions on Russia due to its military aggression.

China has profited from abundant natural resources, including cheap imports of Russian energy through the Power of Siberia pipeline, as well as regular gas exports.
