Billionaire Elon Musk has accomplished a first for the neurotechnology business Neuralink by successfully implanting a brain implant in a human patient.

To enhance human potential and treat neurological conditions like Parkinson’s disease and ALS, Musk co-founded Neuralink in 2016. The company‘s mission is to establish direct channels of communication between computers and the brain.

First brain implant

The US Food and Drug Administration (FDA), according to the business, has approved them to conduct human testing on their brain implants. Neuralink’s technology is mostly utilized in conjunction with an implant known as the “Link,” which is inserted into the human brain via invasive surgery.

The implant is roughly the size of five stacked coins. Neuralink raised around $363 million and employed over 400 people in the previous year.

Musk has also been investigating the field of brain-machine or brain-computer interface research; rumors have it that he would collaborate with Synchron, a company that develops implants, on possible investments. In July 2022, Synchron implanted the first device in a patient in the United States.
