The French business tycoon Bernard Jean Étienne Arnault, who has a net worth of $211 billion, is ranked first on Forbes’ 37th annual list of the world’s wealthiest people. Arnault is the only billionaire on the list whose net worth exceeds $200 billion.

He is the founder and CEO of LVMH Mot Hennessy Louis Vuitton. Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, is not far behind with a $180 billion net worth. Mukesh Ambani, a business mogul from India, is ranked ninth among the richest people in the world with an estimated net worth of $83.4 billion.

According to the Forbes list, over half of all billionaires have less money now than they had a year ago, with plummeting equities, wounded unicorns, and rising interest rates being some of the causes.

From 2,668 in 2022, there are now 2,640 people on the list with ten-figure fortunes worldwide. Bill Gates, Jeff Bezos, Larry Ellison, Warren Buffett, and Carlos Slim Helu & Family are a few other well-known individuals.

The founder and chairman of Reliance Industries, which has stakes in petrochemicals, oil and gas, telecom, and retail, Mukesh Ambani, is the sole Indian in the top 10 list.

The report shows that due to declining stock prices, shattered unicorns, and rising interest rates, roughly half of all billionaires are now poorer than they were a year ago.
