Highlights of the Israel-Hamas war
According to the Israeli military, they have struck 540 targets in Gaza by land, sea and air in the past 24 hours – the most since a ceasefire with Hamas collapsed last week.
Calling it a “spinning humanitarian nightmare,” the U.N. Secretary-preferred Antonio Guterres declared that nowhere in Gaza was secure for civilians.
Meanwhile, the United States on Friday vetoed a UN resolution backed by almost all Security Council members calling for an immediate humanitarian ceasefire in Gaza. With 13 members in favor and one abstention, Washington was diplomatically isolated to the defense of ally Israel.
Ashraf al-Qitra, a spokesman for the Hamas-run ministry, said two paramedics were injured when Israeli forces targeted an ambulance as it was evacuating wounded patients from Gaza’s European Hospital.
He condemned what he known as Israel’s combat in opposition to hospitals, ambulances and clinical teams.
Israel claims that Hamas is operating from inside hospitals and has released footage to support this claim, and has also targeted past ambulances it claims were used by Hamas. Hamas has denied this.
