India urges its citizens to flee the violent Niger

The Ministry of External Affairs advised Indian nationals whose stay in Niger is not needed to leave that nation as soon as feasible.

According to officials, there are already 250 Indians living in Niger, a country that has experienced intense protests and bloodshed since the coup last month. The Ministry of External Affairs advised anybody who might be considering visiting Niger to postpone their plans until things return to normal.

Arindam Bagchi, a spokesman for the External Affairs Ministry, stated during his weekly media conference that India is keenly watching the current events in Niger.

Indian people whose presence is not necessary are recommended to leave the country as soon as possible, he said, given the current scenario.

“They might be conscious of the existing airspace closure. To maintain safety and security, extreme caution should be taken when crossing a land border, he said, reading the warning aloud.

He advised all Indian nationals to register with the Indian Embassy in Niamey immediately if they haven’t already. The Embassy of India in Niamey (+ 227 9975 9975) has an emergency contact for Indian citizens.

Citizens of several European nations were evacuated from Niger. Gen Abdourahmane Tchiani staged a coup on July 26 in Niger, removing President Mohamed Bazoum.

Gen. Tchiani, 62, proclaimed himself the leader of the “National Council for the Safeguard of the Homeland” after the coup.
