Gaza Hunger Crisis: Death Toll Hits 217, 100 Children Lost

  • Gaza Health Ministry reports 217 starvation-related deaths, with 100 children among the victims.
  • UN Security Council to hold urgent weekend session over Israel’s Gaza City seizure plan.
  • Humanitarian groups warn that air-dropped aid is inadequate without full-scale ground access.

The humanitarian crisis in Gaza is worsening, with the death toll from Israel-imposed starvation now at 217, including 100 children. In the past 24 hours alone, eight Palestinians have died of hunger, while 14 others searching for food were killed by Israeli forces.

The UN Security Council is set to convene an emergency weekend session to address Israel’s plan to seize Gaza City and forcibly displace nearly one million Palestinians.

UN to Hold Urgent Session as Gaza Starvation Deaths Mount

Humanitarian organizations on the ground have repeatedly called for secure aid corridors to be opened, citing security restrictions and logistical bottlenecks that slow the delivery of life-saving supplies. Current aid levels, at around 40 truckloads daily, fall drastically short of the estimated 500–600 trucks needed to meet urgent demand.

In central Gaza, Al-Aqsa Hospital reported receiving more than 20 victims after an aid truck overturned on civilians waiting for supplies. Many of the injured were women and children who had gathered at distribution points in hopes of receiving scarce food parcels. Local health officials have criticized unsafe delivery routes, describing them as “death traps.”

Egypt, Jordan, the UAE, Germany, Belgium, and Italy have participated in ongoing air relief operations. However, aid agencies warn that air drops are limited in capacity and prone to chaotic distribution, leaving the most vulnerable without help. They continue to press Israel for safe ground passage to avert a famine.

International attention intensified after Egyptian footballer Mohamed Salah publicly criticized UEFA for failing to disclose the circumstances behind the death of Palestinian football legend Suleiman al-Obeid, killed in an Israeli strike. Salah’s remarks have added to calls for greater accountability in how the conflict and its casualties are portrayed in global sports diplomacy.

As starvation deaths in Gaza mount and displacement looms, humanitarian leaders stress that only a sustained and unrestricted flow of ground aid can prevent further tragedy. Without decisive international action, the crisis risks escalating beyond control.
