Attempts to prolong the truce as the deadline approaches

  • The decision to extend hinged on Hamas’ ability to free ten more Israeli hostages each day.
  • The cease-fire between Israel and Hamas may be extended to release at least some Israeli men.
  • Since October 7th, there have been over 3,000 injuries and at least 242 Palestinian deaths in West Bank.

According to the Al-Araby Al-Jadeed newspaper in Egypt, a tentative agreement has been reached to prolong the ceasefire for an additional two days while maintaining the same parameters. The source for this article was Egyptian government officials.

Although they have not yet confirmed it, Israeli officials told the newspaper Haaretz that the proposal was being looked into. According to an Israeli source who spoke to Haaretz, the decision to extend hinged on Hamas’ ability to free ten more Israeli hostages each day.

Israel-Hamas war

Given that fewer women and children are being held captive, the cease-fire between Israel and Hamas may be extended to release at least some Israeli men. Chief informants from the US CIA and Israel’s Mossad were hosted by Qatar, which served as a go-between for indirect negotiations between Hamas and Israel.

The purpose of the meeting was to discuss further details of the next stage of a possible agreement and to build on the progress made by the extended humanitarian pause agreement.

Three-time father Ihab Abu Auf, who is currently residing in southern Gaza with another family, has revealed to the media that he attempted to return to his northern home twice but was turned away by Israeli forces. He thinks Hamas wants the war to end and wants another Nakba.

Hamas has given mediators notice that it is prepared to extend the ceasefire for an additional four days, enabling the movement to free Israeli detainees who have been detained during this time.

According to Al Jazeera, since October 7th, there have been over 3,000 injuries and at least 242 Palestinian deaths in the occupied West Bank. Pope Francis has demanded that the Gaza Strip cease hostilities, that all hostages be released, and that humanitarian aid be allowed entry into the region.
