  • India and Pakistan trade heavy fire following April 22 militant attack in Pahalgam.
  • Indian strikes target alleged terrorist infrastructure; Pakistan vows retaliation.
  • Opposition parties in India express support for the government’s military actions.

The India-Pakistan conflict has intensified following a deadly militant attack in Pahalgam, Kashmir, which claimed 26 lives. India launched airstrikes on Pakistan and Pakistan-administered Kashmir. They targeted what was described as terrorist infrastructure linked to the Pakistan-based TRF group.

Amid mounting tensions, Indian political leaders convened an all-party meeting in Delhi. Opposition parties expressed support for the government’s actions.

Cross-Border Strikes: India and Pakistan Exchange Fire Amid Kashmir Crisis

The escalating conflict between India and Pakistan has entered a dangerous phase following India’s airstrikes on suspected terrorist camps in Pakistan-administered Kashmir. The strikes were in response to a militant attack in Pahalgam that killed 26 people, mostly Hindu tourists. Pakistan denies involvement, claiming the attack was a false flag operation to justify Indian aggression.

India’s foreign secretary Vikram Misri defended the strikes. He called the April 22 attack the “original escalation” and insisted that India’s targets were solely terrorist infrastructure. However, Pakistan reported 31 civilian casualties and alleged that it had intercepted and shot down multiple Indian drones.

Meanwhile, Pakistani Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif vowed to retaliate for the airstrikes, escalating fears of a broader conflict. Pakistani forces claim to have killed 40-50 Indian soldiers in border skirmishes, though India has not confirmed these reports.

In India, opposition leaders rallied behind the government during an all-party meeting, emphasizing unity and national security. Some suggested launching an international campaign against The Resistance Front (TRF). They alleged that the militant group India blames for the Pahalgam attack is a proxy for Lashkar-e-Taiba.

The volatile situation along the India-Pakistan border underscores the persistent danger of escalation between two nuclear-armed rivals. This raises fears of a broader conflict.
