Chattisgarh police devise a strategy to enforce helmet

If you get caught for a traffic violation, like not wearing a helmet while riding a two-wheeler in the Twin Cities, Bhilai, and Durg, you’ll carry plastic waste on the road.

The action is part of a campaign launched by the Durg district police to educate motorists about road safety and traffic rules. Local police officers made an announcement this Thursday.

Pay fine or collect plastic waste

Durg SP Abhishek Pallav said: “We are running this campaign to make people aware of the importance of wearing a helmet while riding two-wheelers and other road violations. Those caught for the offense will be fined or forced to collect plastic waste in public places.

SP Pallav said this move was also part of the campaign in the twin cities, Bhilai and Durg, to be free of plastic waste.

Police have launched a similar system in Raipur – the capital of Chhattisgarh. The Raipur police in a tweet on Tuesday said that strict action would be taken against people who park their vehicles in non-parking zones.

  • The police will also start issuing on-site challans to motorists for no-parking violations.
  • The Raipur Traffic Police will get up to 50 devices, and those arrested for traffic violations will be able to pay using their debit/credit cards.

There will be a facility to pay challan through QR code online, the police said in a tweet on Tuesday.
