World’s largest airport to be built by Dubai with $35 billion investment

The ruler of the emirate, Sheikh Mohammed bin Rashid Al Maktoum, has announced plans to build the largest airport in the world, with 400 terminal gates. With 260 million people scheduled to pass through it, the revamped Al Maktoum International Airport is projected to cost AED 128 billion, or $35 billion, over the course of the next ten years.

One million people will be able to live in the completed metropolis that the emirate intends to build around the airport, which would include 400 airplane gates and five parallel runways.

The airport is intended to serve as the center of Dubai South. It will be the center of a 55-square-mile planned economic zone that is known for its innovation and trade.

The airport’s strategic significance, which goes beyond transportation to act as a dynamic hub for international trade, commerce, and culture, was emphasized by Sheikh Mohammed, along with the role that cutting-edge aviation technologies will play in determining the airport’s future.

With the ongoing growth in air travel, Dubai’s aviation infrastructure will be anchored by the Al Maktoum International Airport, enhancing the city’s standing as a global leader in both air travel and urban advancement. With the number of foreign visitors reaching pre-pandemic levels, the news coincides with a rebound in air travel.
