Sanative AI, a firm that offers anti-AI watermarks to guard against the use of photos and artwork as training data for diffusion models, won the competition and took home the $50,000 cash award for first place.
An effort called Mozilla.ai, which aims to develop a usable third space for AI technology, has received $30 million from Mozilla. The competition’s winners have developed AI-based programs that address present problems with the development of AI and may bring about change if put into practice.

The idea of the first-place winner solves the problem of AI chatbots turning into a privacy nightmare for consumers and the explosion of AI plagiarism.
The runner-up uses AI as a weapon to enable women who might not otherwise have access to tools that could actually make the difference between life and death. The third-place winner may transform the way AI chatbots are trained while guaranteeing that they are still usable on widely popular devices.
Mozilla’s activities demonstrate that they are on to something exceptional, and we hope that they succeed and encourage others to develop and contribute their own projects that will improve the trajectory of AI technology.
