Analyst Jeff Pu of Haitong International Tech Research claims that Apple intends to modify its A18 Pro chip, particularly for artificial intelligence on the iPhone 16 Pro series of handsets.
This year, Apple is implementing AI capabilities in two ways: first, by commencing production earlier than normal, and second, by utilizing cloud infrastructure for certain activities and operating all of them on the device itself.
A18 Pro Chip
With the use of TSMC’s second-generation 3nm node (N3E), more transistors or specialized parts can be incorporated into the chip in the A18 Pro. A18 is expected to have a more potent Neural Engine and more on-chip AI computing cores, according to a report.
Later this year, an A18 chip is anticipated to be used in the iPhone 16 and iPhone 16 Pro. The A16 chip is currently used by the iPhone 15, whereas the A17 Pro chip is used by the iPhone 15 Pro.
According to a report released today by Jeff Pu, the A18 Pro—which will be used in the iPhone 16 Pro and iPhone 16 Pro Max—will be the sole one with AI-focused modifications.
