Android and iPhone users warn of five potential malicious app

Apps that exhibit one of the five deadly indicators of infection should be deleted, according to experts.

Because malicious programs frequently ask for permissions for functionality they don’t generally need, McAfee cautions that users of iPhone and Android devices may become the target of a hacked app.

Malicious app

These requests, rather than being a sign of an intrusive app, occur when the software wants access that is not necessary. When an app requests unnecessary permissions, that is a telling sign that it is invasive.

Malicious apps often request permissions such as using your camera, microphone, tracking your location, accessing and modifying contacts, and reading your calendar.

  • Experts advise deleting apps with five deadly infection indicators.
  • Unnecessary app requests indicate invasiveness, not intrusiveness.
  • Permissions monitor user movements; McAfee advises careful review and invasive apps removed.

These permissions can be used to monitor a user’s mobile movements. McAfee security expert warns that many people click through user agreements and permission screens without carefully reading them, especially when children are using new apps. However, it’s never too late to spot and remove invasive apps.
