At the close of trading on Monday, Canadian stocks were down due to losses in the consumer discretionary, industrial, and REIT sectors. The S&P/TSX Composite decreased 0.21% at the Toronto closing.
On the S&P/TSX Composite, ATS Corporation (TSX: ATS), which increased by 2.92% or 1.76 points to close at 61.98, was the session’s top gainer. In late trading, MAG Silver Corp (TSX: MAG) increased 1.94% or 0.30 points to 15.80 and Brookfield Renewable Energy Partners LP (TSX: BEP_u) increased 2.43% or 0.93 points to close at 39.21.
S&P/TSX Composite Down
One of the biggest losers was Fortuna Silver Mines Inc (TSX: FVI), which dropped the most, losing 3.17% or 0.14 points to close at 4.28. In the same way that Brookfield Business Partners LP (TSX: BBU_u) lost 2.64% of its value or 0.70 points to close at 26.78, IAMGold Corporation (TSX: IMG) lost 3.08% of its value or 0.12 points to close at 3.78.
On the Toronto Stock Exchange, declining equities outweighed advancing ones by a ratio of 500 to 390, while 127 closed the day unchanged.

Gold futures for August delivery were trading at $1,962.30 per troy ounce, down 0.45% or 8.90. The price of the August Crude oil contract fell by 0.58% or 0.42 to trade at $71.51 per barrel, while the price of the August Brent oil contract fell by 0.68% or 0.52 to end the month at $76.09 per barrel.
While CAD/EUR was down 0.13% to 0.69, CAD/USD was unchanged at 0.76. The US Dollar Index Futures traded at 102.11 up 0.26 percent.
