West Virginia fell to Radford in the final seconds

  • Radford quickly fouled Battle, and he went for a 1-and-1 layup that could have given WVU a 3-point lead.
  • Battle’s missed free throw was recovered by Chandler Turner, who pushed it forward to Brian Antoine, who got the ball into the hands of Daquan Smith.
  • With 11 seconds left, Radford had a chance to tie the game, but Brian Antoine missed the second of two free throws to put them down by one point.

Throughout the year, RaeQuan went from battling the NCAA on the West Virginia court to battling the Mountaineers’ nemesis. They talked about what he would bring to a snake bitten team.

Finally, after a false start against UMass in which he was sick and didn’t play, the announced transfer from Montana State made his WVU debut. It was a dream game as Radford’s Highlanders, coached by former Mountaineer guard Darris Nichols, survived a 66-65 battle in the middle of it all.

He showed the ability coach Josh Eilert said he would show, debuting with 29 points and six rebounds in 31:30 on the floor. It doesn’t necessarily surprise him to admit that most players hope to score 40 points in such a situation.

He made nine baskets and 10 free throws, but he missed the key play of a free throw. But we’re getting a little ahead of ourselves here. With 11 seconds left, Radford had a chance to tie the game, but Brian Antoine missed the second of two free throws to put them down by one point.War took away regeneration.

Radford quickly fouled Battle, and he went for a 1-and-1 layup that could have given WVU a 3-point lead. There was no reason to think he wouldn’t make free throws, going 10 of 12 at that point in the game, but he missed.

Battle’s missed free throw was recovered by Chandler Turner, who pushed it forward to Brian Antoine, who got the ball into the hands of Daquan Smith. And out of Smith’s hands.

He let the ball loose and it rolled down the floor toward the basket. As panic set in, players flocked to the ball from all over.

Smith somehow returned the possession and, while tangled with others and himself, somehow threw the ball over the edge.

He didn’t call the swish, but the worst part was that it went through the ring.WVU’s 65-64 lead turned into a 66-65 deficit. They checked the replay and set the clock to at least 1.6 seconds.

WVU tried, Quinn Slazinski uncorked a long pass in the front court to get the ball out from under Radford’s basket, Agok Agok had to jump to get it, but it forced his hands into battle.

He threw a shot that couldn’t even be called a prayer, and it was over, and WVU lost and fell to 4-7.

After all, after he missed 10, it was a tough way to finish his first game back. The crowd was behind him, much less than the announced 9,019, as it has been since his transfer to WVU.
