‘Sloppy’ World Cup victory is hampered by a “fatigue factor”

The 39-goal victory by the Australian Diamonds, who are still unbeaten in the Netball World Cup, was criticized for a “sloppy” second half. Coach Stacey Marinkovich was concerned after the Diamonds failed to score 20 goals in a quarter for the first time this season.

In the third period, Marinkovich criticized her players for being “one-dimensional,” while Sue Gaudion called their performance “indifferent.”

Despite this, the team was still able to win, and everyone who played showed promise going into game five versus Malawi. With Jo Weston earning a warning early in the game and MVP Jamie-Lee Price being cautioned, the squad will need to improve their composure.

Courtney Bruce was benched in the fourth term as a precaution after grabbing at her hip following a collision with the goalpost in the third term. Courtney Bruce, a talented player who was benched in the final period as a precaution, will require additional fitness training from the club.
