After an outstanding performance in the UAAP Season 85 women’s volleyball tournament, Imee Hernandez of the University of Santo Tomas became the second player from the school to win Player of the Week honors in a row.
On Saturday at the PhilSports Arena, Hernandez put Ateneo under her control by punishing the Blue Eagles with rapid assaults and acting as a deterrent at the goal. As UST defeated Ateneo 25-22, 25-20, 27-29, 25-21, she finished the game with a career-high 24 points on 19 attacks, three blocks, and two aces.

Hernandez led the Golden Tigresses to their third straight victory as they improved to an 8-3 win-loss record by scoring effectively on 19 of 31 attack attempts. They are currently tied for second with the National University Lady Bulldogs and the Adamson Lady Falcons. In the Final 4, all three teams are still vying for a twice-to-beat incentive.
Presented by San Miguel Corporation and the Philippines Sports Commission, Hernandez was named the Collegiate Press Corps UAAP Player of the Week for her outstanding performance. She also received minor sponsorships from MNL Kingpin, Tinapayan Festival, and Jockey.

As in the previous week (when the UAAP took a break for the Holy Week), it is the second consecutive week that a Tigress has received the weekly citation. In the week before that, UST team captain Eya Laure won it.
Hernandez won the award given out by print and internet reporters covering the story from April 12 to April 16 ahead of Laure, La Salle’s Angel Canino, Ateneo’s Faith Nisperos, and NU’s reigning MVP Bella Belen.
Ipakita ‘yung maturity na dapat mayroon kaming mga seniors and ‘yung dapat kong gawin sa loob ng court and ‘yung perspective ko talagang gawin naman ‘yung role ko,'” said Hernandez.
On April 23, Hernandez and the rest of UST want to defeat Far Eastern University and record their fourth straight victory.
