Italy defeated Argentina 1-0 in their Women’s World Cup first match at Eden Park, ending Argentina’s streak of 10 games and four tournaments without a victory.
Giulia Dragoni, a 16-year-old midfielder, was substituted by 33-year-old striker Cristiana Girelli in the 83rd minute. Girelli had an immediate impact, beating Vanina Correa with a skillful header.
