Bengaluru Parade: 7 Lives Lost Amid RCB’s Victory Cheers

  • RCB celebrates maiden IPL title with grand Bengaluru victory parade.
  • Chaos erupts near Chinnaswamy Stadium; 7 feared dead, 25+ injured.
  • Emotional tributes pour in as fans mourn a day meant for joy.

Royal Challengers Bengaluru’s long-awaited IPL 2025 title win sparked massive celebrations across the city. Thousands gathered along the parade route from Vidhana Soudha to Chinnaswamy Stadium to catch a glimpse of the team, with emotional scenes as Virat Kohli and teammates were felicitated by the Karnataka Chief Minister.

As fans thronged the stadium, a stampede broke out near the entry gates, leading to a horrifying incident that left at least seven people dead and over 25 injured.

From Celebration to Catastrophe: RCB Parade Ends in Stampede Horror

The IPL 2025 champions, Royal Challengers Bengaluru, were hailed by fans as heroes after finally securing their first title in 18 years. Led by Rajat Patidar and with veteran Virat Kohli at the forefront, the team’s triumph broke their infamous ‘chokers’ tag. A massive victory parade was arranged through central Bengaluru, with thousands lining the streets to join the festivities.

The felicitation ceremony at Vidhana Soudha saw the players adorned with Mysore Petas, and tributes were paid for their resilience and sportsmanship. Kohli’s heartfelt speech captured the mood: “I gave this team everything. This win is for every fan who never stopped believing.” His emotional words resonated across generations of supporters.

However, the spirit of celebration was shattered when crowd pressure near the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium led to a stampede. With inadequate barricades and insufficient personnel to manage the surging crowd, panic ensued. Those who had waited hours to witness the ceremony became victims of disorganized crowd control.

In the aftermath, the government has promised a thorough investigation and announced ex gratia compensation for the families of the deceased. RCB, too, released a statement expressing heartbreak over the loss of life. The tragedy has prompted nationwide calls for stricter safety regulations at high-profile public events to prevent such heartbreak from recurring.

What was supposed to be RCB’s most triumphant day has become a sobering reminder of the need for public safety in mass celebrations. A win 18 years in the making now shares the stage with grief.

“This win is as much for the fans as it is for the team.” – Virat Kohli
— A quote meant to honour loyalty now echoes painfully, as fans paid the ultimate price in celebration.
