  • All people who were reported missing have been found: the governor of Tamaulipas.

In northern Mexico, during a baptism at the Santa Cruz church in Ciudad Madero, the roof of the church fell, killing at least 10 people, three of whom were children.

Around 100 individuals were attending a baptism at the time of the collapse. Sixty individuals were hurt, including at least two who were critically hurt, while scores were trapped under the debris.

Locals rushed to the structure armed with shovels and pickaxes to rescue people who were trapped. Two cranes are there to clear the area of rubble and search and rescue teams have arrived on the scene.

All people who were reported missing have been found, according to the governor of Tamaulipas. Although the cause of the fall is not yet known, Ciudad Madero’s mayor thinks “structural failures” were probably to blame.

A day of celebration has turned into a tragedy, the priest officiating the baptisms remarked, and the families are now seeking peace. According to Red Cross representatives, the church’s pews were covered by the roof, which allowed anyone trapped within to find air pockets and survive.

One of the survivors posted about her story on social media, and one of the trapped individuals was able to send a WhatsApp message that assisted rescuers in finding him. Among the victims were a young child and a couple with their kid, age 8.
