This weekend, Yuba City’s annual Sikh festival, which is expected to draw 200,000 people, has caused the city’s population to triple.
This year’s celebration comes after a significant investigation into organized crime that had targeted the Sikh community in Northern California. It is the largest Sikh festival in the world, excluding India.
Sikh festival
In its forty-first year, the Sikh Festival in Yuba City, California, has drawn attendees from several cities, including Portland, Oregon, Los Angeles, the Bay Area, and Washington.
Because of the event’s increasing size, security is now provided by the FBI and California Highway Patrol. Preventing violence and keeping the youth engaged are the primary goals. The festival this year comes after a significant protest against violence in the Sikh community in April.
The district attorney announced in April that 17 members of competing criminal syndicates that were causing violence in Sutter and neighboring counties had been apprehended.
The Sikh community is now at peace again as a result of the arrests. To manage the crowds, law enforcement is staffing up, and YubaCity will host a parade as the festival comes to a close.
