The handling of confidential materials by US President Joe Biden after his time as Vice President in 2017 has been the subject of inquiries by a special counsel. When Biden left his position as vice president and before he declared his intention to run for president of the United States, the records were discovered in his home and office.
Three batches of the classified materials were discovered: the first batch on November 2 at the Penn Biden Center, a second batch on December 20 in his garage at his Wilmington home, and a third batch on January 12 in a storage area at the residence. In addition, the White House is completely assisting the investigation while Biden has categorically denied knowing anything about the materials.
Classified documents
Although Biden claimed he was astonished by the finding of classified documents and anticipated it would eventually be found irrelevant, the investigation may have reached its conclusion.
The first batch of ten secret documents, according to sources, contained information about foreign nations from Biden’s time as vice president mixed in with other non-classified papers, including information regarding the president’s son Beau Biden’s 2015 death and the funeral arrangements. The highest level of classification was applied to several of the papers, top secret.
Seven allegations, including attempting to hinder the official investigation and intentionally keeping national defense secrets in violation of the Espionage Act, are related to the documents and were brought against former US President Donald Trump in a separate inquiry after he was indicted. Although he is scheduled to stand trial in Miami in May, Trump has defended his right to preserve the records.
