- Gaining all 23 delegates at stake, Biden won the state Democratic caucus with 95% of the vote.
- The 32 GOP delegates in Idaho were all secured by former president Trump during the March 2 contest.
- Both the Republican and Democratic parties were forced to hold caucuses this year.
Following his successful pursuit of his party’s 2024 candidacy, Joe Biden has now been awarded further delegates by Idaho Democrats as their choice for the presidency. Gaining all 23 delegates at stake, Biden won the state Democratic caucus with 95% of the vote.
With only registered Democrats and unaffiliated voters permitted to participate, the caucus was organized differently from earlier Democratic caucuses. As long as they turn eighteen before November 5th, voters who are currently seventeen years old are permitted to participate in the caucuses.
Nominee in Idaho
The Republican caucus in Idaho was different in that only Republicans who were registered to vote were permitted to participate. The 32 GOP delegates in Idaho were all secured by former president Donald Trump during the March 2 contest.
In Idaho’s general election, Biden will have a difficult fight because Idaho has been won by the Republican presidential nominee in every contest since 1968. Due to state legislators accidentally eliminating the state’s primary during the 2023 legislative session, both the Republican and Democratic parties were forced to hold caucuses this year.
It is anticipated that an initiative by voters will be on the ballot for this fall’s general election. It would expand the state’s primary election season and implement a ranked-choice voting system.
