Rosendale Will Oppose the $4 Trillion Debt Ceiling Agreement

The “Fiscal Responsibility Act,” the debt ceiling agreement made public earlier in the day by House Speaker Kevin McCarthy, a Republican from California, was opposed by Rep. Matt Rosendale, a Republican from Montana, according to a statement he issued Sunday night.

The “Fiscal Irresponsibility Act,” as it was dubbed by Rosendale, was alleged to have failed to control federal expenditures. He added that the American people are being insulted by the senators who support the measure.

The Debt Ceiling Agreement

According to Rosendale, “The D.C. Swamp has suggested adding $4 trillion to the current $31 trillion national debt, which would be the highest debt ceiling rise in our country’s history. The radical agenda of the Democrats and the Biden Administration is still funded by the Fiscal Irresponsibility Act, which fails to reduce spending.

The American people are being insulted by supporting a piece of legislation that continues to jeopardize our nation’s financial future, he continued. I will vote AGAINST the Fiscal Irresponsibility Act because Montanans did not send me to Washington to support politics as usual.

  • Rosendale opposes McCarthy’s debt ceiling agreement.
  • The “Fiscal Irresponsibility Act” fails to control federal expenditures.
  • Montanans should vote against Fiscal Irresponsibility Act to protect their financial future.

The entire 99-page agreement was made public by the House Sunday night. According to a statement from Rosendale’s office, the lawmaker supported the “Limit, Save, Grow Act,” the initial Republican debt ceiling measure that was approved by the House of Representatives on April 26.

According to Rosendale, the original Republican-supported bill was meant to “create economic growth while minimizing the damaging inflationary consequences of reckless spending.” Additionally, he joined his fellow Republicans in a letter to McCarthy pleading for the bill’s fundamental provisions to be upheld as President Biden and Congress work out a new agreement.

HR 2811 is a “great start” towards addressing the nation’s debt issue, removing roadblocks to economic expansion, and preserving benefits.

Rosendale said, “We must grow America by shrinking Washington.” The first Republican in the House, Rosendale, has declared publicly that he will vote against the “Fiscal Responsibility Act.” Colorado Republican Rep. Lauren Boebert has also voiced some dissatisfaction with the legislation.

The House will vote on the debt ceiling agreement on Wednesday, allowing the Senate time to review it before June 5, when Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen predicted the United States could default on its financial commitments.
