Balancing Progress and Planet: Priyanka Gandhi’s Call for Eco-Friendly Development

Amidst an intense heatwave sweeping across India, Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has called for development practices that do not harm the environment. Noting the widespread deforestation occurring in several states, she stressed that such activities contribute significantly to the rising temperatures and environmental degradation being experienced.

April has been recorded as the hottest month in history, leading to an alarming increase in heat stroke cases, particularly in north India and Delhi. This unprecedented heat has prompted the government to issue advisories and set up special units in hospitals to handle the surge in heat-related illnesses.

Gandhi emphasized that while development is essential for progress, it must be pursued in a manner that safeguards the environment. She urged for a shift towards sustainable development practices that can help mitigate the impacts of climate change and prevent further environmental damage.

Highlighting the need for collective responsibility, Gandhi called on citizens, policymakers, and industries to work together towards a future where development and environmental protection go hand in hand. She stressed that this collaborative approach is crucial for ensuring a livable climate for future generations.

“Development work is necessary, but we need to protect the environment as much as possible. We all have to work together to ensure development that takes us forward without harming our environment,”

– Priyanka Gandhi Vadra
