  • Thousands join feminist protests in Paris against the far-right National Rally.
  • Demonstrators highlight concerns over women’s rights and reproductive freedoms.
  • March aims to galvanize opposition amidst rising far-right support.

In Paris, thousands of demonstrators clad in violet flooded the streets from Place de la République to Place de la Nation, united in their opposition to the far-right National Rally (RN) ahead of France‘s snap elections on June 30.

The mobilization of feminist groups comes amidst the RN polling at around 35%, indicating significant electoral support. Beyond voicing opposition, the demonstrators aimed to mobilize voters and raise awareness about the broader implications of a far-right victory, urging the electorate to prioritize safeguarding civil liberties and gender equality in the upcoming elections.

Feminist Resistance Takes to Paris Streets Against Far-Right Surge

Amidst the looming threat of the far-right National Rally (RN) in France’s political landscape, Paris witnessed a powerful display of feminist solidarity on Sunday, June 23. Thousands gathered for a march from Place de la République to Place de la Nation, donning violet attire and wielding placards bearing messages like “Protect our rights, not the far right.”

The protest was more than a symbolic gesture; it served as a rallying cry against the RN’s policies, particularly concerning women’s reproductive rights and access to healthcare services. Morgane Legras, a prominent voice in the demonstration, highlighted the RN’s controversial stance on issues like “comfort abortions,” signaling potential threats to established rights if the far right gains more political ground.

The turnout reflected deep-seated concerns among activists and citizens alike about the implications of a stronger RN presence in the upcoming elections. Beyond its electoral impact, the march aimed to galvanize public opinion and mobilize voters to prioritize defending progressive values and civil liberties.

The feminist demonstrations in Paris not only highlighted opposition to the far-right National Rally but also underscored the urgent need to protect and advance women’s rights in the face of increasing political polarization. As France approaches its snap elections, the outcome will not only shape the country’s political landscape but also determine the future trajectory of social policies affecting millions of citizens.

Push back the far right, not our rights.”
