In Gansu province, at least 105 people lost their lives and almost 400 were injured; in the nearby province of Qinghai, at least 11 people lost their lives and 100 were injured in Hagdong.

Home damage from the earthquake was severe, and many fled into the street in search of protection. Six,381 homes in Jishishan have been damaged by the earthquake.

Premier Li Qiang and President Xi Jinping of China issued orders regarding the earthquake that included a high degree of effort to ensure the protection of people’s lives and property, as well as comprehensive search and rescue efforts and suitable relocation for affected citizens.

Qinghai province is close to the Tibet Himalayan region, which is prone to regular earthquakes due to continental plate displacement, according to experts, and shallow earthquakes greatly harm infrastructure.
