ITRs totaling 6 crores were submitted, and awaiting an extension

This year, it’s anticipated that the Income Tax Department won’t grant any ITR deadline extensions. As a result, if you haven’t already, try to file your return as soon as you can before the time expires.

ITRs for FY 2022–23 (AY 2023–24) have already been submitted by a record number of taxpayers, according to data made available by the Income Tax Department.

In addition, many taxpayers have already received their refunds. Recent sources have revealed that the government has no plans to extend the payment deadline past July 31. Taxpayers must submit their returns by tomorrow if their accounts do not require an audit.

There are several repercussions if ITRs are not filed by the deadline. As a result, it is advised to submit returns before the deadline has passed.

You will be charged a late fee if you file your return after the due date and miss the deadline. Under section 234A, interest is charged for failure to provide a return of income or for providing one late.

Additionally, under Section 234F, late filing of an income return is subject to costs that range from Rs 1,000 to Rs 5,000.
